Meet the Band

Melinda’s multi-octave voice infuses the group with melodic energy. Known for her versatility singing all styles of music including classical, opera and jazz, Melinda’s passion is 70’s rock & roll. A bachelor’s degree in vocal performance set the stage for years of professional singing with Houston Grand Opera, Houston Chamber Choir, Dickens Quartet, Virginia Opera, Tidewater Dinner Theater, Dale Warland Singers (Minnesota), Vox Amadeus and The Philadelphia Singers. A few of her soprano soloist gigs include performances with the Saginaw Symphony, and Saginaw Eddie Band in Michigan; Spartan Alumni Jazz Band and DuPont Jazz Band in Wilmington. Melinda is thrilled with a return to her rock & roll roots as the ‘Early Girl.’
A certified guitar geek, Steve plays rock, jazz, and classical with equal enthusiasm on guitars he builds himself. Growing up in a musical family, Steve learned bassoon from a principal bassoonist in the Pittsburgh symphony. Given that bassoon was not exactly a girl magnet, he switched to guitar in high school (no, it didn’t really help). Steve has performed in a wide range of ensembles and musical styles, including top 40 cover bands (The Eyes, Discovery), experimental improv (Head Octet), jazz (Real Time Jazz, DuPont jazz band), WCGS (classical guitar) and children’s music (M&M & Friends). He strives every day to move forward in his guitar journey.

Jack....Say what? How do you combine saxophone and keys is the question I get asked most often. Sax is my first musical love but …. adding keys has allowed me to explore rich chord structures and provide rhythmic dynamics that you just can’t do with sax alone. Love me some Tom Scott and Grover on the sax while Dr. John, Clery and Longhair provide inspiration to me on the piano, B3 and especially some funky clavinet. Played in numerous musical projects over the years on both coasts including studio and fill in work, building an ever growing network of great musicians and friends. EG&BB is the latest and I’m extremely lucky to be a part of such a talented ensemble.
Chas picked up a bass in middle school, inspired by concerts at the legendary Fillmore East in NYC. After a decade playing New Jersey clubs, Chas toured with bluesman Sonny Rhodes and the Frankie Lee Blues Band. Moving to Baltimore in the '90s, he was resident music and sound designer at Everyman Theatre and bassist with Anne Watts and Boister, recording several albums including one with iconic Memphis producer Jim Dickinson. Still playing/recording with Boister, Chas is happy to now be living in Chesapeake City and performing locally with Early Girl and the Big Boys and the Throwback Junkies.

Melinda - vocals, percussion, keys
Steve - guitar
Jack - vocals, keys, saxophone
Chas - vocals, bass
Mike - drums, percussion

Mike has been playing drums and percussion for more than 40 years. He began in grade school with marching and concert bands and later performed as a percussionist with the local symphony orchestra. In high school, Mike developed a passion for the blues, often holding jam sessions with his brother and friends—much to the neighbors’ dismay. Over time, he expanded into classic rock, hard rock, and grunge, performing with a variety of bands throughout his career. Aside from a brief hiatus during his overseas military service, Mike has remained an active musician, known for his solid timing, musical versatility, and steady presence behind the kit. His playing is inspired by drumming greats Joey Kramer, Neil Peart, and John Bonham.
